Birthday Parties Pressure On Parents

Yesterday I wrote a little bit on how birthday parties can be putting pressure on kids and how it might affect them in the future. Birthday parties don't just affect kids, they impact parents too.

  • Parents might not agree with each other on how big the party is and how it should be executed.
  • They can get in debt to organize their own parties or from buying gifts for other parites.
  • They might not have enough energy fo so much of planning, shopping, preparing... (well you get the idea). They might be overloaded and have too much stuff to do after the party too.
  • They might feel pressured to 'live up to' the community standards and to “make their child happy”.

You can read more about all this and interact with parents on Birthdays Without Pressure. I'll also have it up on the side bar so you can check them out.

And talk about birthday parties for kids, check out this ecard especially made for them.

Birthday Parties – Are they more work or real celebrations?

Birthday parties for kids these days are becoming more and more materialistic. Kids have to get the latest PS2 games, wii, or the latest iPod. Kids are facing more and more big parties and parents are overindulging – almost to the point of spoiling -- with too many presents. Birthdays Without Pressure lists the following consequences for kids --

  • They feel entitled to what they want, not just want they need.

  • They feel envious of friends who get more—and someone will always get more.

  • They feel disappointed, because enough is never enough.

  • Long term, they develop materialistic values that equate personal celebrations with accumulating things.

Do you have a kid? Do you think your child goes through this stuff emotionally? What about when you were young? Did you have parties that you couldn't handle? Do you equate personal celebrations with material things now?

Holla back let me know.

Born John Francis Bongiovi, Bon Jovi changed his name at the request of the record company he was signing with. Even though he's usually the lead singer in his band, he can play both the acoustic and rhythm guitars. He can also play the harmonica. His career was launched with the help of his cousin Tony Bongiovi a notable record producer who owned Power Station recording studio. Bon Jovi worked a janitor there and recorded his music during the studio's downtime. Well all that hard work paid off and now he's a star!
